Elysium is an American science fiction action-thriller film written, co-produced and directed by Neill Blomkamp and starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.
The film premiered on September 4, 2013 in Philippine cinemas distributed by Sony Philippines. In the period of September 4-8, Elysium dominated box office chart with P29.1 million gross. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and One Direction: This is Us settled at number 2 and 3 respectively.
Meanwhile, internationally acclaimed Filipino crime thriller film On The Job earned P2.8 million only in thE same period. In 2 weeks of showing, it grossed P11.7 million. Inspite of its positive reviews from critics and viewers, the film failed to shine in Philippines box office.
